Cape Hengistbury head is located near the resort town of Bournemouth in the South of the UK.
The Cape is of great interest to archaeologists, because here scientists find traces of settlements of ancient people and stone, and bronze, and iron ages.
Sandy beaches attract lovers of sea bathing and provide an excellent opportunity to relax with the whole family. Covered by gravel on Hengistbury head is very popular with walkers, and on windy days the Cape is the ideal place for kite flying. The Cape nature – plants and animals – are protected, and in the summer months on the Cape specially people come to listen to the larks.
The Cape is under threat of destruction due to severe erosion. In the nineteenth century increased erosion under the influence of the human factor, and a significant portion of the Cape was destroyed. In the twentieth century, significant measures have been taken to save the Cape and strengthening the coastline, but also to preserve the unique salt marshes.
