Neusiedl-am-see - the Austrian city located on the North shore of lake Neusiedlersee at a height of 133 meters above sea level in the Burgenland.

The first mention of the city dates back to 1209. In the mid-13th century it was destroyed by the Mongols, and by 1282, called "Niusidel". In 1517, the city was granted market rights and started to develop actively. However, in 1683 Neusiedl am see was besieged by Turkish troops, and in 1708 devastated by kurozumi – rebels of Hungary, who fought against the Habsburgs in the period from 1671 to year 1711.

After the collapse of Austria-Hungary in 1918 the population of Burgenland expressed a desire to be part of Austria, as living in Burgenland people 74% were German-speaking. The peace Treaty Burgenland and including the city of Neusiedl am see became part of Austria on 28 August 1921.

Neusiedl am see to 1926, received city rights, which unsuccessfully sought since 1824.

Tourists come to Neusiedl-am-see all year round. In the summer, come here for the beautiful beaches as well as surfing and sailing. From spring to late autumn Neusiedl-am-see, with convenient transport connections, is a popular base for Cycling around lake Neusiedl. In the winter months in the city are skating on the frozen lake.

Due to the success in sailing at the summer Olympic games 2000 in Sydney, Neusiedl am see was created by the Federal sailing centre.
