On the left Bank of the river arlanzón not far from the Cathedral is the Museum of Burgos. The Museum was founded in 1846 and many times changed its location. In the mid-20th century, its collections were moved to a beautiful old mansion, Casa de Miranda, where they reside to this day. The house itself was built in 1545, in the Renaissance style for Canon de Miranda.
Today, the Museum of Burgos represented by two departments – archaeology and fine arts. The archaeological Department occupies the rooms of the mansion Casa de Miranda, and the Department of fine arts is conveniently located adjacent to the mansion the Palace Casa de Angulo, also built in the Renaissance style. Archaeological Museum collection includes artifacts related to the prehistoric era, periods of antiquity and the early middle ages. Here you can see fragments of sculptures and everyday objects found during the excavations of the ancient Roman settlement of Cluny, Roman mosaics and glassware. It also exhibits early Christian era and the Visigothic period. These are the fragments of bas-reliefs, sarcophagi, household items and much more. The exhibits that comprise the collection of the Department of fine arts, are predominantly in the Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance periods. This sculpture, weapons, jewelry, altars, tombstones, altarpiece and other items. The separate exposition of the Museum presents the works of Spanish artists of the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as sculptors and painters of Spain who worked in the 19th and 20th centuries.
