Castoria is an ancient town in the North-Western part of Greece with its history, traditions and rich cultural heritage. Among the most interesting sights occupies a special place Folklore or Ethnographic Museum of Kastoria.

Folklore Museum of Kastoria was opened in 1972. The Museum is located in one of the most beautiful and oldest buildings in the city near the shore of lake Orestiada. Two-storey mansion was built around the 16th and 17th centuries and has been preserved to our days that did not need any restoration work to open it in the Museum. In excellent condition with preserved original furniture of the house.

Because the history of the city has been for centuries associated with the subject matter, the Museum is equipped with a separate room in the form of a workshop on tailoring of fur. This exhibition has a special place. There are various tools that have ever been used for the manufacture of fur garments. Among the exhibits you can see the first special sewing machine for fur, which was brought from France in 1884. The house has antique furniture bedroom, children, small and large living room as well as restroom. Presented in the exhibition and various domestic utensils. On the ground floor of the building equipped with three cellars. In the wine cellar and today you can see the wine press, barrels for wine storage and a special basket for the vintage. The second cellar was used to store various maintenance, and the third for cereals, pulses and flour. Also on the ground floor kept firewood and coal. In the courtyard there is a well, tugboats and kitchen.
