Belomorsk district Museum of local lore "white sea petroglyphs" was created by a group of enthusiasts, who has been busy creating in Belomorsk public history Museum. Thanks to the efforts of this group in 1961 the Museum was opened the first exhibition.
Led by Y. A. Savvateeva by archaeologists in the field of Belomorsk in 1963 and 1965 were found a large number of rock paintings – petroglyphs. They were created about 6 thousand years ago in Politova the era of the ancient fishermen and hunters. In the years of this finding over a group of rock carvings the "Devils deal" which was discovered by A. M. Linevsky, began the construction of a protective pavilion. In 1968 the building was completed and a small exhibition, which was devoted to archaeological finds and monuments of Karelia. This year the Museum received its name – "the white sea petroglyphs".
Today in the collection of the Museum consists of ethnographic materials (household items residents of Primorye, tools of trades and labor, crafts, clothing) and archaeological collections. Of particular interest are the collections: tools made of stone politolog era, items seaside women's dress, the iconic cast copper products, copper ware 19th-20th century, photographs of coastal dwellers of the 19th – beginning of 20th centuries
The exhibition "Maritime culture Pomors" K. 19th - beginning of 20th centuries housed in pull tender, which is located at the pier of the sea port of Belomorsk. The exhibition consists of several parts: "Trade relations", "Hunting and fishing", "school Mate of Pomerania", "Shipbuilding", "Centers the Pomeranian coast".In the exhibition one can see objects of traditional fisheries, trace their historical formation and development. The exhibition presents documents, photographs, instruments crafts, models of ships, household items from the coastal villages in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
One of the curiosities of the Museum is "the Plan Chiginsky village" (1852 g), in which is written the names of all the owners. Also at the exhibition you can see the compass, the uterus, the book "sailing Course" and the album of lithographs "terrain Types of the Solovetsky monastery", 1884, etc. Due to its placement at the dock, on exposure is often visited by tourists.
