Basilica of Santa Chiara Church in Assisi in Umbria, in which the relics of St. Clare, a follower of St. Francis of Assisi and founder of the order of poor Clares, also known as the order of St. Clare.

The construction of the Church began under the leadership of Filippo Campello, one of the most prominent architects of his time. In October 1260, the mortal remains of St. Clare moved from the chapel of San Giorgio in the new Church, where they were buried in the ground under the main altar.

After almost six centuries of oblivion, these remains, and the remains of St. Francis of Assisi, were discovered in 1850 as a result of many careful studies. On 23 September of the same year, the coffin with the body of St. Clare was raised from the ground and uncovered: the flesh and clothing for many centuries turned to dust, but the skeleton is very well preserved. Two decades later, in September 1872 – the bones of the Saint were interred in the tomb in the crypt of the Basilica of Santa Clara, which was built specifically for this purpose. The process was led by Archbishop Pecci, who became Pope Leo XIII. Today the relics of St. Clare can be seen in the crypt.

Every year in August in Assisi religious festival is held in honor of the Saint. In September celebrated the discovery of her tomb, and in October - the transfer of the relics. By the way, in the same Church, buried Saint Agnes of Assisi.
