The Serra do Catimbau national Park, is located in the state of Pernambuco. It was formed in 2002. Currently the total area of the Serra do Catimbau equals 62300 hectares. The Park is on the list of areas of Brazil with a special biological importance. The reason was situated on its territory, one of surviving in our day, the plot caatinga.

Another distinctive feature of the national Park are artifacts and cave paintings of prehistory Brazil. Approximate age of majority was found on the territory of Serra do Catimbau artifacts is about 6000 years old. Currently in the Park, archaeologists discovered more than 30 historic monuments. Therefore, the area of Serra do Catimbau is deservedly called the archaeological Park of Brazil, the second after the Serra da Capivara.
