Barcelos is a small town famous for its rich history, was founded in the period of the Roman conquest. Also it is the only Portuguese city that is set on the banks of the river Cávado. Here there was a national symbol of Portugal - cock.

Central to old town square – Republic square in the Renaissance style. On Thursday morning there is one of the largest and most crowded fairs in Europe, where you can buy many products, ranging from vegetables, fruits and meat, and ending with handcrafted items, and much more. To the North from the Republic square is the Church of Nossa Senhora do Rubbed.

The Church formerly belonged to the Benedictine monastery, which was founded in 1705. The building of Nossa Senhora do TERS was built in the XVIII century by king Juan V in response to the wishes of his father, king Pedro II. For the plainness of the exterior of the Church hides a magnificent interior in Baroque style. Inside the Church all the walls are covered with magnificent murals, made famous in Portugal tiles "azulezhush" that display various scenes from the life of St. Benedict. Attract the attention of wooden altars, adorned with numerous decorative carved elements and gilding, the authorship of which is attributed Ambrosio Coelho. Inside the Church is the image of the Mother of God the TERS, made of wood in the eighteenth century, and sculpture depicting the crucifixion of Christ about the fifteenth century. Also here is a sculpture of the Mother of God Abadia, made of stone "Anka" the middle of the XVI century.
