Rio-Beck is an archaeological monument of Mexico. This ancient city, located in southern Campeche state, belongs to the great Mayan civilization, founded in the seventh century of our era.

First about these ruins spoke traveler from Austria by the name of Teobert Mahler. He made an assumption about their existence, but in place not yet visited. Experienced went by the Frenchman Maurice de Périgny. He was the first who wrote a small note about this place, having been there. Excavations are to this day, they're run by Dominique Michelet, who heads the French expedition of archaeologists.

The architecture of the city gave rise to the name of the whole architectural style – "Rio BEC". Later this style was common in neighboring cities. Its peculiarity consists in the fact that temple of the pyramid, usually supplied by two towers, which was not carrying any functions and were without any interior. The pyramids were so steep that the steps, placing the structure, it is impossible to climb up.

The temples, located on the platforms of various sizes, were nonfunctional. They are not even a hollow. On some fronts there are quite a truthful imitation of doors, but to open any of them you will not succeed. The impression that everything here was built not so much for living, but for aesthetics and decor. The purpose of these towers is still a mystery to scientists.

It should be noted that all the buildings are densely covered with thickets. So for help it is better to seek advice from a local guide, without him, as seasoned travelers say, little will be able to see.
