One of the main attractions of Copenhagen is the area and the Nyhavn canal, which translated from Danish means "New harbour". The length of the canal is 1 km in length and 15 m in width.

The channel was a Swedish prisoners in 1671 during the reign of king Christian V. the author of the New harbour was a Royal engineer B. Rosenstein. The main purpose of the construction of the canal was the desire of the Danish kings to create a direct connection between Arizonsky Strait and the new Royal square. At the time, it was one of the main shopping areas and it was located in front of the Royal Palace of Charlottenborg.

The Nyhavn district became the place of residence of the sailors, who were returning from distant voyages. Over a long period it was called the Copenhagen red light district and considered the most dangerous place in the city. In 1980 the area was restored, and the harbour became one of the most popular attractions in Copenhagen.

At the beginning of the channel has a large anchor monument to the sailors who died during the Second World war. Along the canal for more than three hundred years, clinging to each other, lined up a fabulous colourful houses. Here at one time lived and wrote their famous works of the famous storyteller Hans Christian Andersen.

Today Nyhavn is a landmark of Copenhagen and one of the favorite places of visitors and local residents. Along the canal there are many restaurants, bars, cafes, shops, souvenir shops.
