The town hall of Delft is a historic building in the Renaissance style located in the Market square, opposite the New Church.

The first town hall was built in Delft in the early thirteenth century, and it was located at the same place, on the market square. Then the town hall served not only as a place of meetings of the city Council, but also a prison. Here were kept the murderer of Prince William the Silent of orange – Balthazar Gerard. From this building to have survived the massive stone tower, which is now considered the oldest building of Delft. In 1536, at the city hall tower clock was installed with four faces of the work of the Delft masters. Over the years of its existence, the town hall burned a few times, a huge fire happened in 1536, when miraculously survived the tower, but after a fire in 1618, it was decided to completely rebuild the town hall.

New town hall was built by the famous Dutch architect Hendrick de Keyser in just two years. On the old Foundation was built two-storey building in the Renaissance style. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries was carried out some renovation, however in the XX century restorers tried to return the hall to its original form in which it was conceived by Hendrik de Keyser.

Now here sits the town Council, and held a civil ceremony wedding. In the halls of the town hall you can see portraits of the dynasty of orange-Nassau, made one of the first Dutch portraitist Michiel van Morewelcome. The facade is decorated with a sculpture of Justice, and one of the halls – fresco Peter van Bronckhorst "Solomon court."
