Indoor fish series Photo: Indoor fish series

Indoor fish series, whose Swedish name Feskekörka literally translated as "fish Church", got it for the resemblance of the building with a Gothic Church. In fact, everything is much more prosaic - it is the oldest covered market of fish and seafood, located on the banks of the canal Rosenlund in the centre of Gothenburg. The ranks were opened November 1, 1874, and October 10, 2013, they received the status of a monument of architecture. Today, the fish market is owned by the city administration.

Fish ranks of Gothenburg were built by architect Victor von Gegerfelt and incorporates features of Norwegian wood and stone Gothic churches. Their style is a mixture of national romanticism and formal experimentation. The building mostly consists of steep roofs, which almost reaches the ground. In the interior of rows used open design with powerful beams, but without columns. Daylight enters the building through the seven Windows on each side, and two large Dormer Windows on the roof.

Building fish series is unique in its design and one of the most recognizable symbols of Gothenburg. When they constructed a new fishing port in Majnabbe in 1910, the fish market on a commercial scale, moved there, however, the fishing series on Rosenlund still remain the main destination for lovers of fish and seafood.

Covered rows are now a famous tourist attraction in Gothenburg, where visitors can buy and sample the seafood at the restaurants located in the building.
