The Building Kronhuset Photo: Building Kronhuset

The building Kronhuset is a large red brick building, built in 1643 -1655 years in the Dutch style. It is the oldest secular non-residential building in Gothenburg. Kronhuset was built on the former site of the old graveyard.

Originally the building was used for storage of munitions, weapons and military uniforms. For many years, guns and other military equipment held in storage on the bastions along the city ramparts. In connection with the fortress arnaz in 1640-ies needed more space to store equipment. The decision to build Kronhuset was adopted in February 1640, and in may 1642 entered into force the order to begin construction as soon as the arrival of the bricks from Holland.

In 1643, was built only the first floor of the building, and the construction stopped due to lack of funding. In 1648, the construction was resumed, but to finish it succeeded only in 1654.

9 December 1927 Kronhuset became the property of the city authorities and until 1954 served as a warehouse, and then was converted into a Museum. 24 October 1968 he was awarded the status of a monument of architecture. Since 1998 here is the professional wind band of Gothenburg, thus, today Kronhuset is primarily a concert hall.

Old yellow buildings surround a courtyard Kronhuset. The house on the West side were built in the 60 years of the 18th century and served as storage space for the railway and fire equipment, and the Eastern buildings were built a little earlier, and they have studios there. In 1964 in the yard Kronhuset was a Park.
