Strzelno – Polish city, located 18 km South of Inowroclaw. The Foundation of the city associated with the person of Peter Vlastelica Duke Boleslaw III. He is considered the founder of the Church of the Holy cross in strzelno. The settlement appeared here after the arrival of the nuns in the eighties of the twelfth century. The Church of the monastery was originally called the Church of the Holy Trinity, and in later years the name was changed to St. Trinity and blessed virgin Mary. City rights strzelno received in 1231.
During the Polish land strzelno came under the rule of Prussia and was shortly called Strelna (1875-1920). The city was liberated during the Wielkopolska uprising on 2 January 1919. In the early twentieth century strzelno was quite successful in economic terms, the city. In 1901 there was opened a gas plant, who worked for 60 years. In the same period, the city has built a large number of residential buildings and urban infrastructure: new regional hospital, library.
The main attractions strzelno include a unique Rotunda of St. Procopius – Romanesque Church, built in the year 1133. In 1945, the Germans set up in the rotunda of the explosion that destroyed the dome, the top of the tower and most of the interior, while the walls remained. Reconstruction, which began in the fifties of the twentieth century, lasted until the beginning of this century.
In addition to the rotunda, attention in strzelno deserves the Church of the Holy Trinity and the blessed virgin Mary, as well as buildings in the town centre.
