Krevo castle was built by the Grand Duke Gediminas in the XIII-XIV centuries. This fortification was built to protect from the attacks of the crusaders who were harassing the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

The fortress was built of stone and brick. She had an irregular quadrilateral massive high walls with towers at the corners and a pond in the middle. Walls was defended by deep ditches filled with water.

Most of the Prince's tower in the southern corner was 25 yards and had three levels. The tower was not only a defensive structure, but was also used for the housing. On the second floor were the Prince's chambers, the Windows of which were higher and wider than the other, and the walls were decorated with frescoes. The second tower was erected over the gate which led to the road from the North. Now this tower almost completely destroyed.

The height of the walls reached 13 meters. Inside, at the level of 10 meters, the towers were connected by a gallery, which is used for the defense of the walls. There were in the castle and dungeons, and in them, as usual, torture chambers and prison dungeons.

In the XVI century the castle very useful to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, repeatedly withstanding the siege of Moscow and the Tatar-Mongol troops. Lock design was so successful that it was considered absolutely impregnable.

Unfortunately, the fact that are unable to make a formidable army, do the time. In the XIX century the castle was considered obsolete and was abandoned. Finally it was destroyed during the First World war. Although during the stay on the territory of Belarus poles, ancient ruins tried to reconstruct or at least to preserve, alas, the castle continued to decay. Now you can see only what once was a formidable stronghold, bringing terror to the enemy troops.
