One of the main attractions of the Hair is considered the Center of folk art Kitsos Makris. The building which houses the Museum, and a large part of the unique collection of presents in it previously belonged to the famous Greek historian and ethnographer Kinosu the Makris.
The two-storey building with an area of 180 sq. m. was built in 1955 by architect Filipidis of Agyria and decorated in a traditional style of the region. In 1988 after the death Kitsos Makris, following his will, the family donated the collection and the house as a gift to the University of Thessaly with the condition that there be organized by the Ethnographic Museum and research center.
The Museum exhibition includes household utensils, tools, ceramics, jewelry, fragments of wall paintings, paintings, engravings, icons (including post) and other Church relics, clothing, embroidery, furniture, musical instruments and much more. Most of the exhibits collected from all over the Pelion Peninsula and mainly dates from the 18-19-th centuries. Among the most valuable and interesting exhibits is to provide artist Theophilos of Hatzimihail, magnificent frescoes of Athanasios of Paganica and works of Nicholas Christopulos. There is also the work of such contemporary Greek artists as Theologos, Geckos and Malamos.
In the Centre of folk art features a splendid library, which contains over 4,000 rare books, important historical documents, 2500 4000 slides and photos perfectly illustrating the development of the culture and traditions of Pelion.
Centre of folk art Kitsos Makris is considered one of the best museums of its kind, and the exhibits at the Museum, is one of the most important and interesting collections of folk art in Greece.
