About 28 km from Volos to Pelion (at an altitude of 400 m above sea level) is located a picturesque Greek village of Milies. This is one of the most picturesque mountain villages of Pelion. Charming scenery of Miles and its surroundings, lovely old houses, buried in greenery and flowers, cobblestone streets, rich cultural and historical heritage, as well as an amazing atmosphere of harmony and cordiality of the local people attract huge number of tourists.

During the Ottoman domination Milies was an important cultural centre of the region. It was here in 1814, at the initiative of Anthimos of Gazis, Grigorios of Konstantas and Daniel Filippidis founded school "Psychis Akos is one of the first higher educational institutions in Greece of the period of Turkish occupation.
