Arkhangelsk regional Museum of local lore is one of the oldest museums in the North – it was opened on 1 January 1837. The Museum is located in two buildings: mainly the Department of nature, five exhibitions on the history, in the Museum and exhibition complex "Gostiny Dvor" - four exhibitions, concert and lecture halls, exhibition and sale of Handicrafts.

The most interesting collections: archaeology and Ethnography of peoples of the North, history and culture of the region from ancient times to the present, exploring the Arctic, shipbuilding, ancient Russian decorative and applied art, numismatics and bonistics, natural science collections, including Mineralogy.

Today in Museum collections around 170 thousand exhibits. Rich collection of the Museum in concentrated form display the particularities and diversity of Northern nature, recreate the colourful history of the region from ancient times to the present day, deep time and the drama of his fate.
