Neo Marmaras – port town and a popular resort on the Western coast of Sithonia Peninsula. It is located on the slopes of the coastal hills in the picturesque pine forests about 125 km from Thessaloniki and 55 km from the administrative center of Halkidiki – the city of Polygyros. Economy of Neo Marmaras is based on tourism, agriculture and fisheries.

The modern settlement was founded in the early 20-ies of the 20th century by immigrants from the Turkish island of Marmara in the Greek-Turkish population exchange in accordance with the Lausanne peace Treaty (the largest in the history of official compulsory exchange of populations). Previously this land was owned by the monastery of grigoriou from the Holy mount Athos.

In the 1960s, 2 km South-East from Neo Marmaras was built one of the largest hotel complexes of Greece – "Porto Carras", which subsequently led to the rapid development of tourism in the region.

Today Neo Marmaras, the largest resort of Sithonia. Magnificent natural landscapes and stunning scenery, superb beaches and crystal clear waters of the Toroneos Gulf and a well-developed infrastructure attract in Neo Marmaras thousands of tourists from all over the world. You should definitely visit the charming mountain village of Parthenonas (today is officially part of Neo Marmaras) is a picturesque Greek village with this traditional local architecture, the chapel of St. Stephen and a small Folk Museum. Among the attractions of NEA Marmaras it is also worth noting the Church of the assumption of the blessed virgin Mary (1865), the abandoned monastery Tripotamos (19th century) and picturesque uninhabited island of Kelyfos.
