Ouranoupoli is a picturesque coastal town in Halkidiki. It is located about 140 km from Thessaloniki in the beginning of the Athos Peninsula and is the last settlement before the possessions of the monastic state of mount Athos - one of the main shrines of the Orthodox world.

Among the main attractions of the town of Ouranoupoli is worth noting an interesting Exhibition of Christian art, which was founded the 10th Running of Byzantine antiquities. The exhibition is located in the old shed (the building dates back to the 18th century and formerly belonged to the Vatopedi monastery) near city dock next to the Byzantine tower.

The exhibits presented at the Exhibition of Christian art, were collected from different parts of Halkidiki and date back to the early Christian, Byzantine and post-Byzantine periods. On the ground floor you can see 14 of portable icons (18th - early 20th century), among which special attention is given to the icon depicting the virgin Mary and the infant Jesus, Dating from 1728, wall paintings from the chapel of the Holy Trinity (16-17 century), bronze cross (11-12 century) and other items of religious art.

On the first floor there are ancient artifacts found during archaeological work on the Peninsula, ceramics, coins, jewelry, oil lamps, arrowheads, funerary relics and more from Potidea, Toroni, Paliokastro, Galatista, burial in Ierissos, etc. of Particular interest are architectural fragments of early Christian basilicas and sophronia St. George from Nikiti.
