Penneshaw is a small town on the northeastern tip of the Peninsula Dudley, the main ferry port of Kangaroo island. Here ferries arrive from the mainland of Cape Jervis.

In the 1990s, in Penneshaw was built only in South Australia, desalination plant, to meet the needs of the city in fresh water. This town is also the so-called "French rock": in 1803 in the Bay hog Bay (Hog Bay) anchored the expedition of French Explorer Nicolas Baudin. One of the members of his team decided to commemorate this event, knocking on a huge boulder the corresponding label. Later the memorial boulder was moved, and today he is in a local Information center (Gateway Information Center). The other attractions of Penneshaw - cave of the Nativity, St. George's Anglican Church. Columbus and one Church, built about 1861, the first Church on Kangaroo island. And in Penneshaw you can learn about the life of small penguins, the only species of penguin that breeds in Australian waters. Most often they can be found on the shore in the evening after sunset they return from the sea and waddling in a hurry to their nests. To observe such penguin walks you throughout the year but the best time is from March to November.

In the Centre of the penguins (Penguin Center) can book a night tour of the beach, which begins with the story about these amazing birds. Then the tourists on Board the track get to the observation deck above the rocks, in which there are nests of penguins. Depending on the time of year you can observe how males try to attract females in the mating season, or to see the newly-hatched babies, leaning out of the nest, desperately shouting in anticipation of the return of parents with prey.

The centre asks you not to photograph birds with a flash, because penguins are very sensitive to bright light. The center is open daily from 18.30 to 21. I can add description
