The nature reserve "Cape Gentium", covering an area of 24 thousand hectares, is striking for its natural types. The reserve consists of two separate areas – lagoon Murray 41 km from Kingscote and Cape Linois 61 km from the main town of Kangaroo island.

The plains of the reserve is covered by sand dunes, which in some places can be found shrubby eucalyptus trees and other coastal vegetation. Rocky cliffs alternate with stretches, sloping gently towards the sea, and form a unique landscape of the reserve. Sandy beaches hidden in sheltered bays.

The reserve is inhabited by various species of birds: gulls, terns, swans, herons, wrens, rainbow birds. Sometimes you can find parrots.

Despite the fact that about reptiles of the reserve, very little is known, it is always necessary to remember that on Kangaroo island is home to some species of poisonous snakes. Part of the Park occupies the Eastern extremity of the Bay D'estre (D'estrées Bay) – the spot where once flourished whaling, and where today you can retire on the beach. Here also begins the trail to the Cape Gentium length of 20 km.
