The oldest surviving civic buildings hem, has undergone many alterations, is the House of Peter I. According to legend, in 1706 Peter I stopped to guide the building of Pechersk fortress. Later the house belonged to the mayor of Kiev Bykovsky, containing in it the tavern. Then there were the "straight home", an orphanage, a parochial school. Built the House of Peter was at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries as a dwelling. After the revolution, the facility was given to communal. But in 1974, the building was restored. Now the room belongs to the Museum of the history of charity of Kiev.
The exposition of the Museum donations (furniture, documents, photographs, books) was going few years. The most valuable exhibit of the Museum is a Baroque 18th century icon "the mother of God with Child". The carving on it is preserved almost completely, and experts believe that this icon may have been part of the iconostasis of any Orthodox Church. Extremely curious portrait of count Leo Tolstoy. The exhibition also contains documents and photographs of the nineteenth century, reproducing the life of Kiev that era and charitable activities.
The main exhibit, of course, is the House of Peter, renovated in 2007, the Museum occupies the second floor.
