Catherine square in Krasnodar was included among the main attractions of Russia on Russian television competition in 2013. It is believed that from this place began the current city of Krasnodar. In 1907, as a token of gratitude for the gift of the Kuban Cossacks fertile land before the ataman's Palace was erected a monument to the benefactor – the Empress Catherine II. After the revolution, in the 20-ies of the monument was dismantled. The first square was named after Sverdlov, then the name of Lenin. The monument was forgotten.
In the 2000s, on the initiative of the city Council it was decided to rename the square in Catherine and the revival of the monument to Catherine the great. On the surviving drawings in four years, the monument was restored in 2006 inaugurated. Majestic Empress, in purple, with a scepter and Orb in his hands, stares majestically in the fields of Kuban. Underfoot the full height of the pedestal unfolded the scroll Brevet of June 30, 1792, to the Left of the pedestal against battle flags and military symbols stands the figure of Prince Potemkin-Tavrichesky.
