The unusual name of the Church – the Church of the virgin Mary on Namati - comes from the word "namesti", which means "square". Getting rid of one letter in this word, the inhabitants of Kutna Hora-the Mountains got a new concept – "nameti". It means a lot: in the first place, which often sweep, which means that it is popular with the public. In the broadest sense – is a place where lot of people come. Therefore, the Church built on one of the city squares and consecrated by the name of the virgin, was very popular. However, urban legends explain the construction of the temple and the emergence of the new words a little differently – more romantic and fun. They say that at the place of erection of the Church in ancient times was located in the market where they sold silver ore. The particles of ore during the day settled on the ground. In the evening a particularly resourceful citizens swept area, collecting a small pile of silver dust. This continued for quite a long time, so the wipers had made a small fortune. They were pious people and not have to spend money for own needs, and gave them to build the Church of the virgin Mary.

The new Church, as was often done in the past centuries, was built on the site of an old Gothic chapel. This occurred in 1357. Church of the virgin Mary is one of the oldest sacral buildings of the city and included in the reserve of UNESCO.
