Lecco is a small town situated on the South-Eastern shore of lake Como is 50 km from Milan. According to the latest census it has a population of about 48 thousand people. Lecco is the administrative center of the homonymous province. In the North and East of the city stands the so-called Bergamo Alps, dissected valley Valsassina.

Where is lake Como, Como lake narrows and forms the river Adda – through it was built many bridges to improve transportation with AC Milan. In Lecco there are four bridge over the Adda bridge Azzone Visconti (1336-1338), the Kennedy bridge (1956), the bridge Alessandro Manzoni (1985) and a railway bridge.

Archaeological finds indicate that the first inhabitants of these places were Celtic tribes. Then came the Romans who built the Castrum – type military settlement and turned it into an important transportation hub. After the fall of the Western Roman Empire in the 6th century the city was conquered by the Lombards, which was later replaced by the Franks. A lot of time in Lecco was held by the Emperor Otto I the Great, who had suppressed the rebellion 964 year raised local count Alone against the Holy Roman Empire. Stayed here and the Emperor Conrad II, who wanted to liberate the city from ecclesiastical authority. Then Lecco became part of the Duchy of Milan and only in the middle of the 19th century along with the rest of Lombardy became part of United Italy. Today Lecco is a popular tourist resort. The city has about a hundred of monuments of history and culture, among which is particularly highlight the small Romanesque Basilica of San nicolò, the Palazzo delle Paura, Teatro Della Societa, Palazzo Bovara and the Church of Santa Maria.

Palazzo delle Paura stands on Piazza XX Settembre, faces the promenade and the Piazza of Cermenate. This four-story building was built in 1905 for the local tax office, for which he received the name of "Palazzo delle Paura" in Italian means "the Palace of fear."

In the Palazzo Bovara today houses the municipality of Lecco. The name of this building derives from the name of its architect who designed and can sometimes be misleading, because the same name are the birthplace of the architect Giuseppe Bovara, and Villa Bovara – family property. The construction of the Palazzo began in 1836 – it was initially supposed that it will be the first in Lecco hospital, but in 1843 the work had to be suspended because of lack of funds, and therefore conceived of four courtyards managed to finish only one. In 1854 was completed façade of the Palazzo facing from one side to the Piazza Diaz, and on the other to the Piazza Lega Lombarda. Since 1928, the building houses the city government.

Another interesting Palace Lecco – Palazzo Falk, standing on the main square Piazza Garibaldi, next to the Palazzo della Bank Popolare Croce and the Palazzo di Malta. Also worth a visit Villa Eremo with a spacious Park, built in 1690, the year the Marquis of Serpenti, and Villa Manzoni, in which lived the famous Italian poet, writer and playwright Alessandro Manzoni. Today in this elegant neoclassical building is a Museum dedicated to the writer. Right from the Villa you can see a small chapel, built in 1777, is buried in her father Manzoni.
