Holy ascension Cathedral is situated in the South-East of the city of Monchegorsk, close to the mountains Poisoining. In the distant 1930-ies there was an administration building plant "Severonickel". In 1992, on the eve of the feast of the Holy Trinity, were solemnly laid 5 consecrated stones: in the corners of the temple and under the throne. In 1995 the city of Monchegorsk heard the chime of 9 bells of the Cathedral. The mass of the big bell – 1200 pounds, and the smallest is 45 pounds.

In parallel with the installation of the bells artists, builders and painters worked on the internal decoration of the Cathedral: made the iconostasis, painted murals. The walls, floor and columns were covered in decorative stone. Due to careful choice of colours of rocks, stone interior of the Church was gorgeous and majestic. Staircase leading to the main entrance to the Church is lined with black gabbro.

In early 1997, at the Holy ascension Cathedral clergy for the first time conducted the worship, and the temple turned into acting. And July 7, 1997, the Cathedral was consecrated arrived in Monchegorsk Patriarch Alexy II.

Currently in the Church are weddings, baptism. A lot of people, including from the field, going on the big Church holidays. Liturgy on these days is often carried out by the Archbishop of Murmansk and Monchegorsk Simon.

Before the feast of the Kazan icon of the Mother of God in 2007, Archbishop Simon was consecrated a small Church, which the parishioners are called chapels. It was built along with the main Cathedral, but at the time did not have enough money on interior trim. And only 10 years later, the chapel appeared before the citizens in all its glory: bright, cozy, "home". It is used for small services. Named the chapel in honor of Saint Basil the blessed Metropolitan of Moscow. But the locals know on whose initiative appeared in the city, the Shrine, and have called him Basil. The initiator of the construction of Holy ascension Cathedral in difficult 1990-ies was Khudyakov Vasily Mikhailovich – Director of the plant "Severonickel". In difficult times the country has delayed payment of wages, in the city nothing was built, but the Church was laid. And this was done in order to restore people's faith and to provide support in life.

Since that time, Monchegorsk, the Cathedral became even more beautiful. His appearance had changed. It was made of red brick, and now he's white (inked). Also was the paving slabs are laid on the landing-place of the temple and on the track around it. Was erected a fence around the Cathedral and stop for buses. Parishioners and students of the Sunday school were established flower beds, planted flowers and bushes of lilac, rose hips and black currants.

At the Church the Sunday school. Educates children and adults. Graduates have the opportunity to act not only in public universities, but also in religious schools and the Academy.
