In the city of Gatchina, Leningrad region, on Chekhov street in the house number 4, is a literary-memorial Museum-estate of renowned cartoonist Pavel Egorovich scherbova. The Museum is one of the branches of the regional state institution "Museum Agency". Museum-estate built in the style of Northern modernity and is one of the most extraordinary architectural creations of the early 20th century in Russia.

The first Museum exhibition was opened here in 1992. Exhibition is divided into local history exhibition and memorial. In the part devoted to the local history, tells about the history and architecture of Gatchina. A separate exposition is devoted to Gatchina, as the place where originated the Russian aircraft. In the memorial part of the exposition are the exhibition entitled "Memorial study P. E. scherbova", "P. E. Scherbov — the life and art". Here visitors can learn about the career, interesting facts from the life of renowned cartoonist, to get acquainted with his friends who often visited the estate: A. I. Kuprin, Mikhail Nesterov, F. I. Chaliapin, K. K. Pervouchine, V. Andreev.

Before the Foundation of the manor Museum, the house enjoyed great popularity among tourists and locals. He was considered a local landmark. The building constructed in 1911. The authorship of the project belongs to the architect Stepan Samoilovich Krichinsky. At the time of the external and the internal layout of the estate caused by his contemporaries many senses, and even during the construction of the building he was considered quite extraordinary, to match the character of the owner-artist.

Extant records daughter of Alexander Kuprin, Xenia. Sharing the feel of this unusual structure, it is described and its layout. He seemed a kind of medieval castle, surrounded by a high wall. Interestingly, the stone fences were collected Werbowy whole family. The walls and roof were covered with purple-red tile. Inside, thanks to the ingenious design solution, always felt a kind of hollowness. The center of the house was located in a large lobby with a fireplace, around which were all kinds of iron tools, and a collection of arms. The middle of this "medieval" hall was decorated with the skin of a large bear. On the second floor, where the workshop scherbova, led a fairly wide stair. From the hall you can get to the small rooms that were furnished and decorated in the Oriental taste – low round tables with trays of brass, polished to a Shine, Ottomans, hookahs, different in length and shape of the tube.

The architectural integrity of the estate included not only the main building and outbuildings. And outbuilding and sheds were built the same way as the Central building of large concrete blocks, large stones, bricks and covered with red tiles. The Central building – the house owners are two – storey and facing the street one floor, and the courtyard – two. In the estate – the ten living rooms. To have preserved the tiles, in the East wing of the house – part of a stone fence and gate within the building – fireplace, carved oak staircase and a basement, and outbuildings has been restored to the glacier.

Thanks to the help of Maxim Gorky's family Sherbovich continued to live in the estate and after the October revolution. Pavel Egorovich Scherbov died in 1938. Until 1952 lived in the mansion, his widow, A. D. scherbova. From 1941 to 1944 in the estate were billeted German soldiers. In the years A. D. scherbova lived in the kitchen. When the German troops retreated, representing most of the value of things, the paintings, the furniture was exported to Germany. After 1952, the artist's widow died, the mansion was divided into 12 municipal apartments, and, 40 years later, there was created a "Literary-memorial Museum-estate of the artist P. E. scherbova".
