The most romantic castle in Lviv region is considered Svirzh castle, which is located in the village of Svirzh, Peremyshlyanskogo district. A unique monument of defensive architecture of the XV-XVII century, was originally built as a fortress, but after the reconstruction, the Church has lost its original form.

The building Svirzh castle is in a beautiful nature, on a small hill Belz. On one side it is surrounded by a beautiful lake and a cozy Park.

The castle was built in 1482, but the first records of it date back to 1530 Construction has participated in many battles and wars. In 1648 the castle looked several times was captured by the Cossacks, was burned at the hands of the Tatars, and in 1672 was completely destroyed by the Turks. But it has not always resisted the enemies, for example in 1675 the castle was able to withstand another siege by the Turks.

The restoration of the fortress was chaired by French General Robert L-Sales, and after this his son-in - Tadeusz Komorowski. Restoration work lasted until the outbreak of the Second world war, during which the building was partially destroyed. In Soviet times, after another restoration Svirzh castle was used as a school tractor, and later, as the House of creativity of the Union of architects, which still exists today.

Near the old castle is erected in 1546, the Catholic Church, which is also in need of restoration. In Soviet times the Church was a warehouse, in 1901 the Museum of atheism, and only in 1988 he returned to the status of the temple.

The modern state of Svirzh castle leaves much to be desired. Until today remained only the outer walls of the building. In the courtyard of the castle you can see a large abandoned well, which took water in case of siege. Svirzh castle rented by a private person, so the access is restricted.
