The Dragon fountain is the fountain of the 16th century, located in the city Klagenfurt in Carinthia on the New square. The main attraction in the city.

The fountain was built in 1583 by an unknown master. The sculpture is carved from a large single piece of chlorite, which was brought from the surrounding mountains. In 1634 around the fountain appeared forged metal grille with flowers of the Renaissance era, and 2 years later to the composition was added to the statue of Hercules, which represents a victory over the mighty dragon. Dragon head is a replica of the skull of a prehistoric rhinoceros, which was discovered near the town. Now the skull is kept in the state Museum of Carinthia.

The composition of the fountain is the legend of how there were Klagenfurt. One of the many legends tells of this: "long ago the earth was represented by an impassable swamp with dense forest. There has always been dark, damp and very scary. No one dared to go into this scary forest. From swamps periodically came the terrible inhuman howl and roar. The Duke of Karast many times sent their brave warriors to find out what kind of monster is hiding in the thicket. But never had the courage, even the most gallant soldiers. Then the Duke promised to give the land to someone who will dare to enter the forest and defeat the Kraken. Cunning warriors built a watch tower and built the effigy of a bull, stuffed it inside a metal thorns. The bull put on the edge of the swamp, and began to observe what is happening from the tower. It took a little time, jumped out of the swamp by the evil dragon and grabbed the bull. However, choking thorns, lost control. In that same instant the brave warriors killed the dragon. And the place where there was an observation tower, and built a city Klagenfurt".
