Art Museum of the Calouste Gulbenkian keeps a rich collection of works of art of ancient and modern art. The Museum was founded according to the last will of Calouste Gulbenkian, a prominent businessman and not less well-known art collector, who wanted his collection became the basis of the Museum. He was an avid collector since childhood, and his collection is considered one of the most valuable art collections in the world. The Museum is located in a picturesque Park complex, which is owned by the Foundation Calouste Gulbenkian, at the intersection of Avenue de Bern Avenue and Antonio Augusto de Aguiar.

The Museum's permanent collection is divided into two parts and presented in chronological and geographical order. In the first part of the Museum you can see works of Eastern and classical art. Among the exhibits of the first part of the Museum - art objects from Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece and Rome, and from Mesopotamia, one of the most important centers of world civilization and the ancient city of culture. Also features a ceramic and textiles from Persia, from the Islamic period, and Turkey. The second part of the Museum devoted to European art, from the eleventh century to the mid twentieth century. In this part you can see the books and medieval manuscripts with colored illustrations, figures and ivory sculpture, paintings and decorative art objects. Especially valuable are the works of famous French jeweler Rene Lalique and his works are exhibited in a separate room. Visitors can see works by famous artists of different eras, such as Rubens, Rembrandt, Monet and many others. All of the Museum's collection includes approximately 6,000 exhibits.
