National Pantheon of Portugal is one of the most magnificent architectural monuments of Lisbon. Named the National Pantheon, the monument was only in the twentieth century, previously it was the Church of Santa engrácia. The construction of the Church was begun in 1682. The modern building of the Church of Santa engrácia was built on the foundations of an earlier Church, consecrated in honor of St. Braga, Santa engrácia. The first Church was started with the donation of the Princess Mary, daughter of king Manuel I in about 1568. In 1681 the building began collapsing, his recovery took the Royal architect Joao Antunes, one of the most famous architects who built in the Baroque style. The construction lasted until 1712, when the architect died – ceased.

The unfinished Church stood until the twentieth century. Over time, the roof of the Church was decorated with a dome, and in 1966 took place the solemn opening of the Church. The building is designed in the shape of a Greek cross, on each corner of the building is a square tower, in the design of the facades was used Baroque Borromini, which is characterized by wavy lines.
