The Museum of the Royal horse guards opened at the Whitehall in 2007. The headquarters of the horse guards, where is the Museum located in the historic government buildings. It includes the buildings of the Old Admiralty, a Banquet at home (in front of which was executed king Charles I), the Prime Minister's residence on Downing street, 10 and the foreign office (Ministry of foreign Affairs). In front of the headquarters is the parade, which annually parades in honor of the Queen.

Permanent home at the Whitehall guard acquired in 1775, occupying a building built specifically for this purpose to the design of William Kent. In addition to the horse guards, there is now also the headquarters of the garrison of London.

The room is in a building of the eighteenth century, selected for the Museum, was in extremely poor condition: previously, it was used as a warehouse. Wonderful vaulted ceiling was hidden behind the concrete slabs, pavements covered in a meter layer of concrete. During the restoration of the original interior was discovered antique stained glass window – now it has become part of the exhibition. On the dial tower clock that adorns the main building, visible black marks: they correspond to the time of the execution of king Charles I. In the basement there is a Playground for cockfights that were once popular in the guards.

The Museum is divided into two parts: the historical gallery and the existing stables. The historical part talks about the development of the horse guards since 1664, when it was created by king Charles II. The guards played a prominent role in the victory at Waterloo, suffered terrible losses in the Crimean war, has found a machine gun armament in the First world, move on armored vehicles during WWII. Now the Royal horse guards – not just ceremonial-ceremonial part, but also a powerful military Union, armed with modern technology, the past, the Falklands, Iraq, Afghanistan.

Here recruit young men, as a rule, before who had no business with the horses, not to have to retrain. All guardsmen are preparing to perform ceremonial functions – learn horseback dressage, participate in patrols and parades. Special attention is paid to appearance: polishing treads takes up to three hours, cuirass has a dazzling sparkle. The Museum displays uniforms and weapons of all eras, personal belongings of soldiers, paintings, awards, documents.

A very interesting part of the Museum are the guard stables located behind the glass, " here in all details visible the process of caring for horses. The visitor can take on the form of guards, consisting of 51 items (this is especially popular with the children). Right at the entrance to the Museum every day at eleven o'clock you can enjoy extremely colorful spectacle of the changing of the horse guards.
