The village of Weißenkirchen, which translated from German means "white Church", is located in one of the most picturesque wine regions of Austria – Wachau.

The Wachau region, which is famous for its wonderful white wines, is situated along the banks of the Danube in the beautiful countryside. In the region of several wineries, one of which is located in the village of Weißenkirchen. Popular varieties of the region: Gruner, Veltliner and Riesling. The oldest vineyard village winery Riesling, founded in the 13th century. Wine Gruner, Veltliner characterized by a quite intense flavor and freshness. Foodies can hear the pleasant aroma of white pepper or tobacco, but the most outstanding is the taste of citrus fruits (peach). White Riesling grapes are grown on steep rocky slopes on the shore North of the Danube. In total, the vineyard area covers an area of Weißenkirchen W hectares of land.

The village itself is home to 1448 (January 2011), every year, it attracts about 20,000 tourists.

The main attractions of Weißenkirchen include the Wachau Museum, where you can see paintings, everyday and festive costumes of the local people, to get acquainted with winemaking traditions of the region. Another attraction is the Church of the Dormition of the virgin Mary, built in the 14th century in a mixed style of Gothic and Baroque. Two kilometres upstream is the fortress Church of St. Michael, built 500 years before the Church of the assumption of the virgin Mary.
