Dominican monastery, also known as the Basilica. Stanislaus, Bishop and Martyr, is one of the oldest and most valuable churches in Lublin, is one of the oldest buildings in the city (in 2013 celebrated 760 years).

The Dominicans came to Lublin in the 13th century, and the monastery was founded by Casimir III the Great in the first half of the 14th century. In 1575 the city was a huge fire, during which the entire complex was lost. The Church was reconstructed in the Renaissance style. In subsequent years, were built eleven chapels, among which the greatest interest is the Baroque chapel of the Commonwealth or of the Holy cross. The chapel was built in 1645-1658. The dome of the chapel is covered with frescoes depicting the last judgement.

The building of the monastery is located South of the Basilica. After the suppression and expulsion of the monks in the 80-ies of the 19th century, in the monastery barracks were located. The monastery was planning to refurbish the 30-ies of the twentieth century, but after the war began, the idea was abandoned. In 1945 most of the monastery was occupied by the puppet theatre. Andersen. In the postwar years began a large-scale restoration as the building of the monastery and the Basilica. In June 1967 Dominican Church has received from Pope Paul VI with the title of Minor Basilica.

The architectural ensemble is proud to Lublin, as well as one of the main tourist attractions of the city.
