The building of Lille town hall was barely a hundred years, but it is, except that accommodates the office of the city administration, holds a large collection of modern art and takes sightseers.

The building was built in the first half of the twentieth century after the First world war, in the years which had destroyed the old town hall. The work lasted for eight years – from 1924 to 1932. Architect Emil Dubisson chose to implement this project in the Flemish style, and as base material – concrete. This same material was used to create sculptures, which are located at the base of the tower near the town hall. Their author is the sculptor Carl Carbazole, and hewn them by author's technology characters – Lyderic and the giant Fineart, heroes legends about the Foundation of Lille.

Next to the town hall is the tower height of about 105 meters, which is a symbol of political and economic influence of the capital of the region Nord-Pas-de-Calais. In addition, this tower is the highest in the region. The tower houses a clock, a powerful searchlight and a television and radio antenna. Both buildings are in the beginning of this century were recognized as historical monuments: the town hall is a national, and the tower is a world heritage site by UNESCO.

The interior of the town hall and the tower is decorated with paintings by contemporary artists – these works adorn the corridors, halls and stairways.
