Palazzo Tucci is a historic building in Lucca, for many centuries owned by the Tucci family. About the middle of the 18th century the then owner of the Palazzo, Giuseppe Tucci, decided to renovate the building in which his family lived for more than two centuries. The decision coincided with the marriage of Giuseppe Maria Theresa of San Zeno Church, the representative of a noble family of Lucca. Restoration works were so radical that, unfortunately, disappeared virtually all medieval elements, which previously adorned the pediment of the building. However, the lack of plaster on the rear facade of the Palazzo gives some idea of how it looked original construction, the former is, in fact, a Union of several houses and towers. Decorated with beautiful terracotta arch in the courtyard also gives a hint of what significance had the Palazzo Tucci in its glorious past.
Giuseppe Tucci entrusted the restoration work to the architect Ottaviano Diodati, one of the best and most advanced artists of his time, who worked not only in Italy but also in France and in Vienna. It is therefore no coincidence that the Palazzo Tucci is one of the few historic buildings of Lucca, which "hid" the features of medieval and Renaissance architecture.
The main entrance to the Palazzo, surrounded by ancient Roman walls, is located in via Cesare Battisti. A notable element of the main facade is a huge portal, surmounted by the family coat of arms Tucci and the inscription "Joseph Tuccius Sibi Posterisque — A. D. MDCCLXXIX". On the rear side of the facade you can see a memorial plaque, commemorating the name of the musician Alfredo Catalani. The lobby of the Palazzo is divided into two rooms. The second is a large staircase that leads directly to the entrance to the main floor. The floor is decorated with stucco, and its decoration is the oval window. Inside the Palazzo Tucci you can see the stucco decorations, paintings from the 18th century, frescos depicting Flora and seasons, as well as paintings depicting mythical heroes, is probably the last were painted by a local artist Giovan Domenico Paladini.
