The lighthouse on the river Pasig Photo: lighthouse on the river Pasig

Lighthouse on the Pasig river was the first lighthouse, built in 1642 in the Philippines. Then it was located at the mouth of the Pasig river, marking the entrance into the river for ships entering Manila Bay and looking the Marina. In 1846, the Spaniards built a new lighthouse, but at the same location at the mouth of the river that divides the city into two parts. For nearly a century it was a kind of guiding star for all seafarers inter-island vessels, pointing them the way to the docks.

The lighthouse, which local people called "Farol" (Spanish for lighthouse), was one of the most notable attractions of Manila Bay until the mid-20th century. Construction and expansion of the city's port further South and the subsequent reclamation of the coastal strip significantly changed the location of the lighthouse, making it almost invisible from the water of the Bay. In 1992, the old Spanish lighthouse was demolished and in its place built a more simple from the architectural point of view with a new tower. Next to it are located the coast guard station Manila. And the area grown on reclaimed land, is called parola, in Filipino language means "lighthouse".

The current building of the lighthouse is a white conical concrete structure with a height of 14 meters and a focal plane 13 and 11 meters. The old lighthouse was higher by almost a meter and he was taller than 14, 94 meters above the ground.
