The memorial complex "Khatyn" – a silent monument to the Nazi atrocities during world war II.
The village of Khatyn was burned on March 22, 1943. Were burned to death by the whole village. Those who tried to escape from fire, waited automaton bullets standing in a cordon of soldiers. Managed to survive only three: two boys and an old man.
In 1966 it was decided to perpetuate the tragedy of Khatyn and create in place of the destroyed village memorial. The Central Committee of the PBC adopted a decision to establish in Logoisk district memorial complex "Khatyn". Was declared the all-Union competition of projects of the memorial complex. In March 1967 the competition was won by young modern architects Y. Gradov, V. Sankovich, L. Levin and sculptor, people's artist of the BSSR S. Selikhanov.
The memorial complex "Khatyn" was inaugurated on 5 July 1969.
Amazes sculpture unconquered inhabitants of Khatyn, carrying in the hands of a dying son. The monument depicts the miracle of surviving blacksmith Joseph Kaminski, who under piles of corpses found his wounded son.
Special emotional expressiveness is achieved by a bell ringing that you hear every 30 seconds. Ringing spreads far over the silent green hills that holds the ashes of Khatyn. About the burned houses reminiscent of the monuments in the form of chimneys.
Here created the world's only cemetery of villages. Immortalized all that remains of burned villages – their name and the urn with the ashes brought from the scene of the tragedy. On a symbolic tree branches in alphabetical order mentioned 433 Belarusian villages burnt during the war.
