Moscow zoo is the first zoo in Russia, was organized in 1864 by the Russian Imperial society of acclimatization of animals and plants. The beginning of its existence linked with great names of professors of Moscow University Karl Rule, Anatoly Petrovich Bogdanov and Sergey Usov.

For the opening of the zoo in it was already about 80 species and 200 copies of wild animals and more than 100 copies home. Best of all was presented to the Russian fauna: bears, wolves, foxes, badgers, polecats, Martens, hares, squirrels, hedgehogs, deer, falcons, hawks, owls, owls, bustards, cranes, herons, ducks and more. The creators of the garden wanted to show the audience in the first place our nature. Have been on display and exotic creatures - lions, Jaguar, rhinoceros, parrot, alligator.

Now in the Moscow zoo contains more than eight thousand animals belonging to more than one thousand species of the world fauna.
