The state Museum of defense of Moscow is located in Michurinsky Avenue, in the Olympic village. The Museum was founded in 1979. In the exposition of the Museum was based on the exhibits of the exhibition dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the battle of Moscow.
The halls of the Museum was opened to visitors in 1981. The exposition of the Museum in chronological order shows a great event in the history of Russia – battle of Moscow 1941-1942 This event determined the fate of not only Russia but the whole world.
In 1994 it was reconstructed at the Museum. In 1995 it opened a new exhibition. The event was dedicated to the memorable date – the 50th anniversary of the Victory. With the help of nearly four thousand exhibits was created a Grand and unique architectural and artistic solution for the exposition of the Museum shows the protection of the capital.
The exhibition allows the visitor to fully grasp that stopped on the outskirts of Moscow the best forces of the army, considered the most powerful in the world at that time. The Museum exposition reflects the dramatic history of the war: 1941 – militia, anti-aircraft defense of the capital, which managed to save Moscow from intense enemy attacks.
In the collection of the State Museum of defense of Moscow is a collection of materials on the protection and defenders of Moscow, the battle of Moscow, memoirs, diaries, letters, photographs, maps, belonged to them and their relatives. In the exhibition there is a section dedicated to the memories of veterans. The Museum has a list of participants and veterans of the battle of Moscow. The Museum presents and carefully preserved newspaper wartime purchased by the Museum from collectors.
The exposition of the Museum consists of seven rooms. The four rooms are thematic exhibitions: "the Beginning of the war. "Invasion". "Military enlistment office". "Childhood interrupted by war." "Volunteer militia". "Construction of fortifications". "Products Moscow enterprises for the front". In the following rooms are exhibits on the military way of divisions that have passed since the heavy fighting from Moscow to Berlin. The sixth hall of the Museum dedicated to the "people's Memory". Seventh hall of the Museum is devoted to Marshal G. K. Zhukov. It also presents the memoirs and works of writers on the battle of Moscow.
Most valuable are the collections of the Museum: a collection of examples of military clothing, a collection of Soviet war German awards and medals, the collection of small arms, a collection of letters and diaries of participants of war, a collection of photographs of front-line correspondents, as well as a collection of letters from German soldiers and officers of the group "Center".
The Museum hosts a meeting of war veterans, various lectures, meetings with public figures and memorable military historical dates.
