The memorial monument "to Victims of Chernobyl" was opened in Mozyr in front of city hall in the 10th anniversary of the explosion at Chernobyl on April 26, 1996.

In Mozyr now lives about 2 thousand liquidators of the Chernobyl NPP. Basically, it is soldiers of different parts thrown by the leadership of the USSR decontamination of contaminated areas. Soldiers not issued dosimeters and not even explained all the risks to which they are driven by irresponsible officials.

Some liquidators now have already died and many others were disabled. The government of the Republic of Belarus does not forget about Chernobyl, paying them benefits and pensions. Now in Belarus there are four state programs of assistance for victims of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

Every year at the monument to the Victims of Chernobyl are going mass rallies. Survivor emergency workers and ordinary people want to draw the government's attention to their needs.

The monument is made in the form of a symbolic white chapel, symbolizing the invisible danger, which is located inside the black stone memorial, on which is stamped the year of Chernobyl. Above the chapel is a Christian cross. Here every year on the anniversary of the tragedy held prayer services in memory of the terrible catastrophe.

In 2001 in Mozyr came the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy. He addressed the gathering at the monument to the citizens: "the Chernobyl disaster and today. But your pain is our pain and we are with you".
