Irakleia (Irakli) is a small Greek island in the Aegean sea. It is located between the Islands of Naxos and IOS. Irakleia is the most Western island of the group of Small Cyclades. It has an area of 18 sq km and a coastline of approximately 30 km Today on the island only two settlements - the administrative center of Irakleia the Panagia village (located in the Central part of the island), and port of Agios Georgios.

Chora is a picturesque natural landscapes, lots of great beaches (Livadi, Agios Georgios, between alimia, vorini Spilia, Karvounarakis, etc.), crystal-clear waters of the Aegean sea, the unique flavor of the local settlements and a charming atmosphere of cordiality and hospitality of the inhabitants of the island. Among the attractions of the island special attention deserves the cave of Saint John is one of the largest and most beautiful caves in Greece with stunning stalactites and stalagmites. Certainly worth the climb and the mountain Pappas (420 m above sea level), from the top of which offers breathtaking panoramic views and visit one of the most beautiful places on the island – the Bay Merihas, surrounded by picturesque cliffs, the height of which sometimes exceeds 100 m. Among the most interesting churches Irakleia is worth noting the Church of the virgin Mary (perhaps the most impressive structure of the island), the Church of St. George (1834), the Church of Taxiarchis with a magnificent iconostasis and the chapel of Prophet Elias. Also of interest are the remains of a fortified settlement from the Hellenistic period (second half of 4th century BC.e.built on the ruins of the temple of Zeus and the sanctuary of the goddess TIHE (The) and the deserted village of Agios Athanasios is a perfect example of Cycladic architecture.

Island of Irakleia is a true Paradise for ornithologists. In 2010 there were 175 species of birds, including quite rare and threatened species extinction.

You can visit the island of Irakleia as a one-day visit and spend their vacation here (or part of it), though in the latter case, one should take care of booking accommodations in advance, as the choice is very limited.
