Archangel Michael monastery built on the outskirts of Odessa Governor-General count Mikhail Vorontsov 35 year. 19th century in honor of its patron Saint. In 1839, the Holy Synod adopted a resolution on the establishment of the Church women's cenobitic monastery. When the monastery was attached to the hospital and refectory for the poor, opened the door of the Diocesan female school for orphaned girls. After the first revolution the monastery was closed as "counter-revolutionary", and then blew up the Cathedral, and bell tower. Only with the advent of the occupation authorities in 1942, the monastery was transferred back to the sisters. However, his troubles were not over: in twenty years the monastery had once again closed, and its territory given to the municipal tuberculosis hospital.

The revival of the Archangel Michael monastery began in the last decade of the last century: the Charter was registered, and two years later returned to the surviving part of the room, it should be noted that their condition was very old. Nevertheless, the monastery was revived from ruins: built not only new buildings, have been resurrected old traditions. Thanks to the care bestowed on the Archbishop of Odessa, his Eminence Metropolitan Agafangel, the monastery was enlarged miraculous icon Verbovetsky of the Mother of God.
