The Tuileries Garden Photo: Garden Of The Tuileries

The Tuileries gardens lies in the heart of Paris, between the Concorde and the Louvre. It is the largest and oldest Park of the capital in the French style, is a favorite promenade of the Parisians.

Five hundred years ago, outside the walls of the Louvre fortress, was the edge with a public dump. Was mined here clay tiles, hence the name of the place (French clay – tuile).

The first Park here arranged in 1564, at the request of Catherine de ' Medici, he was in the Italian style. Even after a hundred years, Colbert decided to reschedule the Park, giving it a more national character. For this, he invited the chief of the Royal gardener andré Le nôtre, the Creator of Versailles. Le nôtre radically changed the appearance of the garden: rebuilt the Seine, which became part of the Tuileries, gave great beds and pools, wide paved alleys, passing in the street – Champs-Elysees and Rivoli.

During the reign of Louis XIV the garden became available to the public. It has benches, a cafe, public toilets. However, the king was more interested in the Versailles, and the garden gradually fell into some disrepair. In 1871, died in the fire located there, the Tuileries Palace was burned down by the Paris commune, the building had to be dismantled.

Truly the Tuileries was restored only in the late XX century, during the reconstruction of the Louvre. In two identical buildings located in the Western part of the garden houses a modern art Museum with a magnificent collection of impressionist and Orangerie Museum of art of the XIX century. In the Park you can see many marble and bronze statues from different eras. In the Tuileries often hosts exhibitions of sculptures in the open air exhibited works by Rodin, Moore, kragga.
