The city hall is one of the most conspicuous buildings in Oslo, attracting the attention of all visitors to its simple geometric form. As a result of its construction under the project of Arnstein of Arneberg and Magnus Poul'sona, which was completed in 1950. on the eve of the 900th anniversary of Oslo, put the capital of Norway on the Majesty of the architecture, along with Copenhagen and Stockholm. It was the most ambitious project that completely transformed the appearance of the city.
For the construction of the town Hall took more than 8mn. bricks made by hand. The first Foundation stone was laid by king Haakon VII.
On one of the towers are huge clock where every hour is heard the melody created by the 49 bells sounding and looking like an inept child's play on the piano.
From the wall of the building for those at the town hall square or in the harbour, welcomes St. Halward, the patron Saint of Oslo. The main entrance is from the back of the Hall, on the square of Fridtjof Nansen, where you will see the fountain and wooden sculptures of mythological.
The city hall of Oslo is known around the world for the fact that here, in ceremonial hall decorated with paintings of Henrik sørensen, annually awarded the Nobel peace prize. Other halls are also worthy of attention of visitors. They are painted with exquisite murals depicting the nature of Norway, historical events and sketches of the lives of people.
In front of the building is the town hall square, with views of the Oslofjord, where from the Bay with four piers depart municipal ferries and various pleasure craft.
