The appearance within the city of temples with two identical names are easily explained. At some period to Ostrava were attached independent towns, which became henceforth the city. Every town, erecting a temple, could give him any name. So in Ostrava there were two Church of the Immaculate conception of the virgin Mary.
One of them is on the territory of the city district called the Přívoz. The temple is built in the Gothic revival style and is dominant in the square Svatopluk Cech.
In the late nineteenth century, the inhabitants of Přívoz, had its Church and attended services in the Church of St. Wenceslas. This situation does not sit well with many, so in 1890 a Commission was established, whose task was to supervise the construction of a new Church on the main square of Přívoz.
For the erection of the Church was invited from the famous Vienna architect Camillo sitte. All believed that in 1898 the Church will begin to function. Why was called a date? The fact that this year was the anniversary of the Emperor of Austria – Hungary Franz Joseph I celebrated 50 years of his reign. However, the construction of the Church was delayed, and he was only consecrated in 1899 – that is, a year after the scheduled date. For the Grand opening of the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the virgin Mary invited the Archbishop of T. con.
The temple was a very solid and impressive. It is decorated with two tall towers and an open gallery. Tower converted into a bell tower. Three local bell made nearly a century ago – in 1921.
The Church interior is austere and restrained, so that nothing would distract parishioners from prayer.
