One of the most amazing places of Prague, a wonderful unique place in the heart of the city – Kampa island.

Just in Prague there are 8 Islands. Kampa is the most beautiful of them. It can be accessed by clicking with Velkoprevorske the place across the bridge linking the two banks of the river Certovka. The second, simpler way to the island: steps leading directly from the Charles bridge. You probably will see a ladder that tourists climb down, follow them and you.

The river Certovka is actually a stream, which was dug in the twelfth century to rotate the mill wheels. Till our days there were two mills, one of which was built by the knights of Malta. The Creek got its name from the house of one of the villain, which was called the building of the Seven Devils and was located right on the shore. Modern creators like to depict, art paintings, which are sold throughout Prague, neat, picturesque houses on the river the Devil. Due to this idyllic picture, this area is called the Venice of Prague, although, of course, gondolas here.

Kampa island got its name from the Spanish word Campa, which meant a military camp. They say that in 1770 there really was encamped Spanish troops.

Kampa island loved Prague intelligentsia. To stay here was considered a sign of good taste. Here lived many famous personalities of the Czech culture: architects, animators, artists, scientists... Many of them at the camp and put the monuments, so you can walk around the many beautiful lawns not only enjoyable but also educational.
