National natural Park Rusenski Lom lies not far from Ruse – just 20 kilometers from the Bulgarian city in the South. The name of the Park originates from the eponymous river, which is the last right tributary of the Danube. In 1970, Russenski Lom, an area of approximately 3,300 hectares, was registered as a protected area.
Park of Rusenski Lom has a varied landscape, flora and fauna, in addition, there are unique historical monuments. All this makes the Park extremely interesting to visit and there are conditions for Hiking, ecological, and educational tourism.
In the natural Park grows about nine hundred species of plants, the fauna is also very diverse: it is home to amphibians (10 species, 5 of them are protected by law), reptiles (19 species), mammals (66 species), as well as fish, snails, crayfish and river mussels. The class of birds presented here are the most generous - 190 species, nesting 110 of them.
On the territory of the Park there are several different eco-trails: this is a specially designed separate routes of different lengths, which allows to study the features of the landscape, to assess the biological diversity of the Park, to visit archaeological sites. Park visitors will see the unique century-old elm, river Rusenski Lom and its tributaries of the Cherni Lom, Beli Lom, Malki Lom, ancient Christian cemetery of the 17th century, rocky nests of rare birds that hunted bats and more.
In the Park Rusenski Lom are the Ivanovo churches - unique rock complex, which is under protection of UNESCO and is part of world cultural heritage. Also here is another site, the ruins of the Cherven fortress: watchtower, the foundations of churches, seigniorial houses, gates, ruins of fortress walls, as well as unique structures for water supply.
The Park is equipped with plenty of outlets for recreation, there are special pockets for a fire, all the routes are marked.
