In the city of Severomorsk, the large Central square Seaside is a monument to the heroes of Severomorsk, or as it is popularly called the monument "Alyosha". During the harsh years of the great Patriotic war, the Northern fleet has decided to erect a monument in cherished memory of the victims of frontline soldiers and friends. At this time in parts of the ships began collecting funds for the construction of the monument. The idea of building the monument was such that it could be seen from afar.
In mid-1945 had the idea of creating the monument-lighthouse on the island of Sebum, which in addition to the aesthetic side, could point the way sailing ships and vessels. Gradually the erection of the monument were collected 5 million rubles, but in this case prevented the dire living conditions that prevail in the Navy, the people's Commissar of the Navy of Russia took a decision to donate the collected money to the needs of capital construction.
During the 1950s, the question of the erection of the monument, the lighthouse was again raised. It was also intended to establish on the island of Sebaceous. As you move the detailed plan for the development of the monument, it was decided to install the monument in the city of Severomorsk, the capital of the Northern fleet, the city is visited by almost all the sailors who come to serve in the Navy.
Date of opening of the monument – June 10, 1973, coincided with the day of the 40th anniversary of the Navy, because of what took place the opening ceremony of the new magnificent monument. The main author of the project was G. V. Neroda – famous sculptor, corresponding member of Academy of arts of the USSR, people's artist of the RSFSR. Also in the project was attended by honored artist of the RSFSR G. Neroda; as an architect, "Alyosha" was made by one of the oldest architects in Moscow Professor Dushkin, V. N.; engineer-Lieutenant Colonel of the project was Shashkov A. A..
During the work on the monument should be placed correctly on the surrounding areas. In this case an unprecedented contribution was made by the chief engineer, project architect, officer-North Shashkov. Thanks to the incarnation of his idea of erecting a monument and Seaside area of the city, the Severomorsk managed to reach its main square on the seafront promenade, which is especially rarely do in various cities of our country, in which port facilities are literally cut off the whole city from the sea.
The memorial is a huge bronze statue of a sailor holding a machine. She was cast at the "Monumentskulptura", which was located in Leningrad. When erecting such an enormous sculpture was used nearly 200 different parts, the total weight of which reached 63, 4 tons, and which have been accurately collected in fifteen fortified units. About the size of "Alesha" can be judged according to some reports: the carpal portion of the right hand has a weight of about 0, 3 ton, left hand – 1 ton, the weight of being in the hands of the North slot is 2, 2 tons. Overall the statue of the sailor in height is about 17 m, which is firmly mounted in the pedestal, which reaches a height of 10 metres. After mounting the Assembly figures at the plant was carried out, the decision was made stronger to improve its strength with the help of the steel frame, the erection of which was used at least 35 tons of steel. According to the results envisaged under the project, the total weight of "Alesha" amounted to about 100 tons. Commemorative pedestal was made in the form of a figure resembling the bridge of a submarine, and on the side faces of the monument were installed, bronze bas – reliefs-they listed all of the component parts of a connection, and the warships of the Navy that were more distinguished in the great Patriotic war.
